Confluence Park Riverbank and Bike Trail Clean Up 2019

Saturday, April 27th, 2019 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm (ET)

About

Hello, my name is Alex Roller-Knapp.  I am organizing the 3rd annual event to clean up litter at Confluence Park on the 27th of April, 2019 from 12:00 - 4:00pm.

This will be a physical clean up event to remove trash along the riverbank and bike trail starting at the Boathouse restaurant.  679 W Spring Street Columbus, Ohio.
Along the river bank at confluence park there is an eddy current on the olentangy.  This eddy current traps many floating trash items at higher river levels.  This leaves tons of plastics and styrofoam in the same place on the river bank at lower water levels.
Last year, there were several groups involved and a total of 28 people showed up to help with the effort. Keep Columbus Beautiful (KCB) provided garbage bags and removal of the litter collected. Watershed groups like Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed (FLOW) also play an important role in supporting clean up events like this.
It is very important to help out with physical clean up events like this to keep our waterways in good shape.  We would love to have your help for this event to continue to support healthy rivers in the state of Ohio.

Thanks, Alexander Roller-Knapp

The river levels are high at this point. We will still be meeting at the confluence today as scheduled 12 - 4 pm. There are areas on the scioto flood plain that are accessible for a clean up today.
The olentangy however is up to the point it would be hard to remove litter today. For those who are able, the event will be rescheduled for next Saturday April 27th 12 - 4pm at the same location 679 west spring street.
The good news is it looks like the rain will mostly hold out for todays clean up.
Hope to see everyone today or next saturday to keep our rivers clean !

Alex... In light of the continuing rainfall, and a forecast of continuing rain on Saturday, the water level in the river is certain to be elevated. Is the cleanup event postponed to another weekend? Please let the volunteers know without delay.
