Branch Out Columbus - Free Tree Give Away

Saturday, April 15th, 2017 from 8:30am to 2:40pm

About

As part of the Branch Out Columbus initiative, the City of Columbus, Kurtz Bros., SWACO, and WCBE 90.5 have teamed up to give 1,000 free trees and compost to Columbus residents in an effort to increase the city's tree canopy. The Branch Out Columbus goal is to plant 300,000 trees by 2020.

We need volunteers to help check-in pre-registered recipients, distribute trees and bags of mulch and assist a number of residents who are physically unable to plant their tree(s). The trees are small, roughly 1-2 feet high, in 2-3 gallon pots.  There will be three shifts of volunteers.

1. 36 Volunteers needed from 8:30-11:30 a.m. These volunteers will take trees from Fr. Hayes to residents' homes for planting.  The volunteers will be given shovels, trees, tree guides and delivery instructions.  Volunteers will go out in groups of two to deliver and plant trees.  The volunteers will need access to a car to deliver and plant the trees and then return the shovels to Fr. Hayes.  Any questions about responsibilities may be directed to Annie Marsico, aemarsico@columbus.gov.

2. 12 volunteers needed from 9:40 a.m.-12:20 p.m. These volunteers will work the registration desk and/or help with distribution of the trees and mulch to residents' vehicles.

3. 12 volunteers needed from 12:00 a.m.-2:40 p.m. These volunteers will work the registration desk and/or help with distribution of the trees and mulch to residents' vehicles.
