The International Community Garden is an initiative at Columbus North International School to beautify the school building, grow perennial plants and foods, and to learn more about food production and distribution--plants and food grown in the garden will either support the local wildlife or provide food for school lunches and the less fortunate. The garden will include native perennial plants and has been initially designed to act as a monarch waystation that is sustainable and drought-resistant. The initiative is an effort created by the Middle School Student Council and supported by the Columbus Foundation, Scott's Miracle Grow, the Glen Echo Civic Association, and other local partners.
On April 10, we will be preparing the gardening bed and planting some lettuces, beans, and peas. We will need volunteers who can demonstrate how to begin a garden to our 7th- & 8th-grade students. We will need the following tools to get started:
We appreciate anyone that can volunteer their time and/or lend tools for our use (we will treat them with care). Any tools that our volunteers are not able to provide can be purchased via grant funding.
Thank you for your interest!
Must bring a state ID and check in to our LobbyGuard system.
