The Early Childhood Learning Community

About

This early childhood facility provides daytime programming for about 200 children 6 years and younger.  Partners at the center include Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities and Head Start.  ECLC's staff, children and families have a long history of engaging with the outdoor area around the school.  There is a large 'Outdoor Learning Environment' that features massed native plantings, a live willow hut, natural spring-like water features, a dry creekbed, and an edible garden. An organic farmer provides ongoing curriculum on growing and harvesting chemical-free edible plants. This year, we'll continue the work that we started for Earth Day 2016 and do the next phase of a stream restoration project on the south side of the property.  We'll be planting about 40 native shrubs and trees along the stream bank to stabilize the bank with deep root systems and to minimize mowing stress to the edge of the stream by maintenance crews. We'll do the project rain or shine; please bring a shovel and work gloves if you have them!
