We were able to remove invasive plants and litter and enjoy some of the native trees that have returned due to our efforts in previous years. The weather was perfect today!
The weather was warm but not too hot. I was able to pull out lots of small honeysuckles before they become big honeysuckles and identify big ones that stronger people can deal with later :)
I pulled out euonymus and English ivy to make room for native wildflowers to return in the spring. I also picked up a little bit of trash and identified a honeysuckle that we'll need to cut down next year.
I was able to fill a lawn-and-leaf bag with euonymus that was beginning to crawl up the trees. Some of the vines had climbed up so high I had to just cut them off at the base! Hopefully wildflowers will be able to come back in the spring where the vines had been choking them out. I saw two toads and heard lots of birds!
Pam from the City came to help and she did a ton of work! Together we cut down the huge honeysuckles and burning bushes from the hard-to-reach parts of the woods and pulled them out. We let so much sunlight reach the forest floor so native plants can return!
Today I was able to pick up trash in the park to keep it safe and beautiful for both the families in the neighborhood and the animals who call the park home.
